Each year the Commission evaluates whether the accreditation requirements are current and up to date with the issues that shape the land trust community. Thanks to all who contributed feedback last year.
The Commission is pleased to release the 2026 Requirements Manual, along with a document with a summary of the changes.
Changes to the requirements and related documentation are phased in. If your land trust’s application is currently in the review process or coming up later in 2026, there is no need to take any immediate action. If your land trust is applying for renewal in 2027 or later, please be sure to refer to the updated versions of the application materials, including the Renewal Reference Application Packet and the Land Conservation Project List.
Note: Information about applying for first-time accreditation in 2027, including the lottery registration timeline, application due dates and application materials will be announced by the end of April.

The requirements are part of the foundation of the accreditation program and help the Commission ensure the fair and consistent evaluation of accreditation applications. Another essential part is the people behind that work.
Does meaningful work with a national impact sound like something you want to be a part of? Consider joining our team as the requirements manager. The requirements manager will be the point person for the accreditation requirements and will serve as an evaluator of accreditation applications.
Accreditation fees are structured to provide land trusts of all sizes the opportunity to participate in a program that builds strong land trusts, fosters public trust in land conservation and helps ensure the permanence of land conservation. And, did you know that the accreditation fee is all inclusive? During your term of five years – or seven years for third renewals and beyond – the one-time fee covers the application review, Extended Term Report (for third renewals and beyond), outreach calls, and any consultations over the accredited term with Commission staff.
